Job Summary:
The Nuclear Security Specialist is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of nuclear facilities and materials. This role requires a deep understanding of nuclear security regulations, protocols, and best practices to minimize the risk of unauthorized access, theft, sabotage, and other potential security threats. The Nuclear Security Specialist will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement effective security measures and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive nuclear security programs and procedures in compliance with applicable local, national, and international regulations.
2. Conduct thorough risk assessments to identify potential security vulnerabilities and develop mitigation strategies.
3. Monitor and evaluate existing security systems, technologies, and protocols to ensure effectiveness and make recommendations for improvements.
4. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement physical security measures, including access controls, surveillance systems, and perimeter protection.
5. Maintain and update security documentation, including security plans, procedures, emergency response plans, and incident reports.
6. Conduct security audits and inspections to assess compliance with established security standards and identify areas for improvement.
7. Develop and deliver training programs to educate employees on nuclear security procedures, emergency response protocols, and incident reporting.
8. Stay current on industry trends, emerging threats, and regulatory changes related to nuclear security, and make recommendations for necessary adjustments to security programs.
9. Coordinate and liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies, law enforcement, and regulatory bodies, to ensure compliance and facilitate effective communication.
10. Investigate and report security incidents, breaches, and suspicious activities, and implement appropriate corrective actions.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as nuclear engineering, security management, or a related discipline.
2. Minimum of [X] years of experience in nuclear security or a similar role in a regulated industry.
3. In-depth knowledge of nuclear security regulations, guidelines, and best practices, including those issued by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and relevant national regulatory bodies.
4. Strong understanding of physical security systems and technologies, including access control systems, intrusion detection systems, and video surveillance.
5. Proficient in conducting risk assessments, threat analysis, and vulnerability assessments.
6. Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to develop and implement effective security solutions.
7. Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately in a high-pressure environment.
8. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders.
9. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
10. Relevant certifications in nuclear security, such as Certified Nuclear Security Professional (CNSP), Certified Protection Professional (CPP), or equivalent, are highly desirable.
